Dear ,
I write to you as a constituent from . I am gravely concerned about the people of Darfur. As you know, the genocide in Western Sudan has already claimed more than 400,000 Darfuri lives. More than 2.5 million civilians have been forced from their homes. An estimated four million now need humanitarian aid in order to survive. The region is home to countless instances of wholesale slaughter, gang-rape, forced starvation, and lost hope. In order to change the Sudanese government’s position on Darfur, and in order to improve civilian security in Darfur, the U.S. and the international community must begin imposing concrete costs on the Khartoum regime for continuing to refuse peacekeepers. The citizens of Wisconsin must not stay silent in the face of genocide. For the sake of helping to save millions of lives, please Co-Sign the Harsdorf/Kessler Sudan Divestment Bill, which imposes targeted financial sanctions against Sudan’s leadership via divestment from international companies doing business in Sudan. My community and other Darfur advocates will check in with you soon to find out about the status of our requests. Thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
