Where does the money we raise go? Some of our money goes to hosting awareness events but most of it goes to the people of Southern Sudan. To hear how our money helps see the "Efforts in Sudan" section under the Fundraising tab.
Fundraising for an NGO (non-governmental organization) is the most direct and effective way of making a difference in Sudan. The problem is that fundraising directly for refugees in Darfur is the difficult. Why? The largest hurdle to overcome is the ability to deliver funds to the communities which we support. Due to economic sanctions placed on Sudan in November of 1997, US entities are prohibited from selling to or buying from those in Sudan. The only way to legaly deliver funding or supplies to those in need is via a certified NGO.
While Action in Sudan fully recognizes the good work done by NGO's such as Doctors Without Borders and Catholic Relief Services, we prefer to have a more direct hand in where our money goes and how it is used. For this reason we choose to work with an NGO called The Machara Miracle Network. The Machara Miracle Network was started in 2006 by a PhD Candidate here in Madison, Augustino Ting Mayai, a native of Southern Sudan and one of the "Lost Boys of Sudan". By supporting this NGO, we can be certain of where our money goes, because we get direct feedack from one of its founders, something that few other NGO's can offer.
